12 Frequently Asked Questions About the Automower

Even user-friendly machines come with questions. Husqvarna’s Automower is the latest in lawnmower innovation, providing yard owners with a convenient alternative to cumbersome mowers requiring significant work in the elements. Whether you are considering purchasing the Automower, or you already own one, consider these frequently asked questions about the Automower.

What does the installation process involve?

A couple of hours or more of your time (depending on your lawn’s size and complexity) and a read-through of the owner’s manual is all you need to install the Automower. If you need additional help, you may benefit from an installation service by your Husqvarna dealer; otherwise, visit Husqvarna’s guide on how to install the Automower!

How much time and energy do I need to commit to the Automower?

Little to none. Once you install it to your yard, Automower becomes self-sustaining. It automatically mows your lawn a few times a week—rain, sunshine, or nighttime—and knows when to dock itself for a recharge. You don’t even need to be home!

How will Automower affect my allergies?

Due to the small cuts Automower makes across your lawn, allergens don’t easily become airborne. Additionally, the automatic nature of this robotic lawnmower means you can be inside when Automower is hard at work.

How does the Automower affect the environment?

Thanks to its rechargeable batteries, the Automower is an emission-free machine! It’s also low energy, meaning you may only spend around $10 to $50 per mowing season depending on the complexity of your lawn.

How noisy is the Automower?

The Automower isn’t noisy at all! The little robot produces, depending on the model, around 58 to 69 dB(A) compared to the 95 to 100 dB(A) of traditional lawn mowers. The Automower can work tirelessly day or night without disturbing you or your neighbors!

How efficiently does Automower work in various yard types?

Whatever a traditional lawnmower can do, Automower can do. The Automower’s large wheels help it navigate hilly and uneven lawns, but remember to fill in small, deep holes to help prevent it from becoming stuck.

Can the Automower detect objects on the ground?

If the Automower bumps a large object, like a chair or someone’s leg, it will reverse course. If Automower can pass over an object, however, the object might get damaged. Be sure to pick up clothes, toys, and other small object for their protection, as well as rake pine cones and branches to prevent damage to the Automower’s blade.

What weather conditions can the Automower operate in?

The Automower can handle rainy weather, but you should bring it inside in extreme conditions. During the summer, the robot can tolerate up to 113 degrees Fahrenheit; however, due to low battery capacity in hot weather, Automower will operate for shorter durations.

Should I keep my traditional lawnmower?

That’s up to you, but you won’t need it anymore! Automower does all the mowing work for you. You may want to keep a weed trimmer on hand to cut close edges of your lawn beyond Automower’s reach.

Should I bury the wire under my lawn?

Burring the wire underground is unnecessary; install the wire over short grass around the perimeter of the lawn you want the Automower to cut, and overtime, the wire will disappear into the grass. If you prefer to bury the wire, however, Husqvarna recommends a depth of one to four inches, or a Husqvarna technician can help you do it.

Why does Automower cut the lawn at random patterns?

Lawns that are mowed in random patterns grow carpet-like grass with a more even cut!

Can I allow my children and pets to play in the yard while the Automower is running?

The Automower’s outer body is extra-long in case it bumps into someone’s feet, and the blade stops turning if picked up and flipped over; however, Husqvarna advises that children stay indoors while the Automower is operating. Pets tend to avoid the Automower, and the light bump the Automower gives when accidentally running into pets or other people and objects is gentle enough to be harmless.
